Skein is a new collaboration between Grant Collins and Loren Warn. Grant Collins is a prolific, well-respected and versatile producer who has proved his talents under a number of different guises over the years with over 100 releases to date. Grant started collecting music in the early 80’s, first got into electronic music via the Original Electro Series and became a massive fan of the early R&S material and Joey Beltram. He started producing in 1992 with an Atari computer and an Akai sampler in true early doors style!

Grant soon set up under the psy trance Darshan moniker, with his first release in 1994 and joined Flying Rhino Records in 1996. Here he released numerous singles - ‘The Beast’ was perhaps the most memorable, and two massive albums - ‘Awakening’ and ‘Spectre’. As Darshan, Grant started remixing for many people including Robert Miles in 1997.

Also in 97 Grant launched his techno project 4D, with James Monro, set up to delve deeper into the realms of underground and minimal techno. 4D were also prolific, with releases on Nam Nam, Iboga, Flow and Flying Rhino, including the massive ‘You Don’t Know Me/Snatch’.

In 1999 Grant kicked off Excession, another solo project, aimed squarely at 4x4 techno and progressive house/trance. He released more major tracks on Flying Rhino, Fire and Iboga including ‘Vega’ & ‘Skein’. Excession brings dynamic, tight and addictive sonics to the dancefloor and has been championed by Sasha, Lee Burridge, Danny Tenaglia and Anthony Pappa to name just a few. Grant continued his remix duties under the Excession guise, one of the biggest was ‘Drums 4 Better Daze’ for Hoojchoons.

Also in 99, Grant joined forces with Cass Cutbush to launch Correlian who had numerous tracks released on Flying Rhino and Fire Records, including the monster ‘Fathoms’. If that wasn’t enough, in 1999 Grant began a breaks inspired project called Exile, releasing tracks through the likes of Distinct’ive Breaks and appearing on Fabric and Adam Freeland compilations.

In 2000 Grant set up his own label, Fire Records with Cass Cutbush, Lee Burridge and Pete Martin aka Slide which formed a base for many more big releases. In addition to being a prolific producer and remixer over the last 16 years, Grant has travelled all corners of the globe as a DJ and still continues to play out at some of the best parties and festivals across the world.

Loren Warn has now joined forces with him to form the latest venture – Skein. As well a adding a range of vocal flavours and styles, she is involved with the compostion and arrangement of the some of the work. Loren is a classically trained pianist and vocalist and brings some serious vocal credentials to the affair. Her love for electronic music and both classical and experimental vocal styles, has led her to sing and write with acts such as Ephexis and Aum3 and she continues to explore her talents in underground electronica.

Skein signed to Pieces of Eight in summer 2008 and they are currently working on their debut album. Their debut single, Sniper was released in September 2008 and is available on all good digital stores worldwide. Their follow up single will be released in early 2009.
